|Crowns are lab made restorations used to regain the form and function of teeth. teeth damaged by deccay, trauma or developmental defects can be rectified by crowns.
Crowns can be made of many different material. the common ones are
1) Metal Free Ceramic - All Ceramic restoration - without any metal substructure and tooth like look- can be done for anterior and posterior teeth
2) Porcelain Fused to Metal (PFM) or metal ceramic- ceramic covered metal substructure- looks like teeth - can give a darkened margin occasional
3) Full metal - made of noble metals or alloys of non noble metals- no ceramic coating on the surface- shinning surface- cannot be used in anterior teeth or in appearance zone
